Self-contained, high voltage Q-switch drivers are boxed units that run off of line voltage. The high voltage level is set by adjustment of a front panel potentiometer. A connector on the rear of the unit yields a low-voltage monitor of the high voltage setting.

2-019 and 2-020 Fast Switching driver
These solid state drivers feature switching times of less than 15 nanoseconds. The 2-019 switches quickly from the high voltage setting to ground with a slower recovery time; the 2-020 switches quickly from ground to the high voltage setting with a slower recovery time. Maximum repetition rate is 100 Hz (M/N 2-020 is only available on a custom basis).

2-019-PCB
The 2-019-PCB is a compact, surface-mount board designed for oem use in applications requiring fast, high-voltage switching of small capacitive loads, such as Pockels cells. The user needs to supply 15-volt DC and a trigger pulse. The high voltage, which is generated on the board and can be continuously adjusted up to a negative 3.5 kV through action of an on-board potentiometer, is switched to ground when a rising trigger edge is received. High voltage switching time to ground is less than 10 nsec; recovery back to the high voltage setting occurs at a slower rate (Available on a custom basis).

2-020-PCB
The 2-020-PCB is a compact, surface-mount board designed for oem use in applications requiring fast, high-voltage switching of small capacitive loads, such as Pockels cells. The user needs to supply 15-volt DC and a trigger pulse. The high voltage, which is generated on the board and can be continuously adjusted up to a negative 3.5 kV through action of an on-board potentiometer, is switched from ground when a rising trigger edge is received. High voltage switching time is less than 10 nsec; recovery back to ground potential occurs at a slower rate (Available on a custom basis).

2-100-PCB
The 2-100-PCB is a compact, surface-mount board designed for oem use in applications requiring fast, high-voltage switching of small capacitive loads, such as Pockels cells. The user needs to supply 15-volt DC and a trigger pulse. The high voltage, which is generated on the board and can be continuously adjusted up to a negative 3.5 kV through action of an on-board potentiometer, is switched to ground when a rising trigger edge is received. High voltage switching time to ground is less than 35 nsec; recovery back to the high voltage setting occurs at a slower rate (Available on a custom basis).

2-021 High Repetition Rate Shutter Driver
This solid state, high voltage driver follows a 5 volt gating signal and features up and down transition times of less than 35 nsec. Maximum repetition rate is 5 kHz. The voltage is adjustable up to 5.5 kV through action of a potentiometer on the front panel of the controller. The lag between gating voltage and high voltage application to the cell is less than 500 nsec. The high voltage pulse can be held high for a minimum of 5 µsec; there is no maximum limit to how long it can be held high.

2-022 High Repetition Rate Shutter Driver
This solid state, high voltage driver follows a 5 volt gating signal and features up and down transition times of less than 20 nsec. Maximum repetition rate is 200 Hz. The voltage is adjustable up to 6.0 kV through action of a potentiometer on the front panel of the controller. The lag between gating change and high voltage application is less than 250 nsec. The high voltage pulse can be held high for between 5 µsec and 500 µsec.

FAQ for RapidPulse Series Drivers (PDF file)

  • Typical Electronic Transition Times of 2.5 nsec - 5.0 nsec depending on the Model Number
  • Low Jitter
  • Well-Suited for OEM Applications
  • Compact Size
  • No Active Cooling Requirement
  • Easy Interface to Pockels Cells

The RapidPulse series of High Voltage Switches are high performance devices that bring the solid state benefits of compactness and reliability to Q-switch and Regenerative Amplifier applications. The electronic switching times are fast -- typically 2.5 nsec -- and repetition rates are as high as 20 kHz. Interfacing to Pockels cells is easy and the devices require no active cooling.
